About the Speaker:

Jared Johnston has been a proud part of the Armorock team since 2017. Before joining Armorock, he worked for Geneva Pipe and Precast, where he saw firsthand the serious and costly effects corrosion can have on wastewater infrastructure. That experience shaped his belief that there had to be a better way and that polymer concrete could be the long term solution to corrosion and inflow and infiltration challenges.

Jared has played an important role in helping build Armorock into what it is today. He truly believes in the work he does and cares deeply about helping engineers, municipalities, and contractors find solutions that protect their communities for generations to come. His industry knowledge, real world experience, and genuine passion for helping others make him not only a wonderful resource, but an engaging and heartfelt presenter.

Topic (1 PDH/1 CEH): Combating Corrosion in Wastewater Infrastructure - The Advantages of Polymer Concrete

Armorock Lunch & Learn Synopsis

Wastewater infrastructure is continuously exposed to aggressive environments, with hydrogen sulfide (H₂S) and other corrosive compounds creating significant challenges for the long-term performance and reliability of underground structures. This Lunch & Learn will provide an overview of the causes and effects of H₂S-related corrosion and explore the conventional methods engineers have used to address these challenges, including coatings, linings, and admixtures. The presentation will then examine polymer concrete as a durable, corrosion-resistant solution for wastewater and other demanding applications.

Attendees will learn about the history and evolution of resin-based products, polymer concrete material properties and applications, corrosion testing and performance studies, and the benefits of polymer concrete compared with traditional materials. The presentation will also cover available polymer concrete structures—from standard cylindrical products to custom-designed structures—as well as corrosion warranties, life-cycle costing, life-cycle cost analysis, and polymer concrete specifications.

Where available, the presentation may include a live virtual connection with an Armorock representative from an active job site, providing attendees with a firsthand look at polymer concrete structures in the field. The session will conclude with a discussion of local projects and unique polymer concrete applications from across the United States, followed by an open Q&A.

Key topics include:

  • H₂S corrosion in wastewater and other aggressive environments
  • Traditional approaches to corrosion protection
  • Corrosion warranties and long-term performance
  • Polymer concrete as a solution for corrosion and infiltration/inflow (I&I) concerns
  • The history and evolution of resin products
  • Polymer concrete material properties and applications
  • Corrosion studies, testing, and performance benefits
  • Standard cylindrical and custom polymer concrete structures
  • Life-cycle costing and life-cycle cost analysis
  • Polymer concrete specifications and design considerations
  • Live virtual job-site demonstrations, when available
  • Local and unique polymer concrete projects from across the United States
